Our Services
Bringing the service of a private, competition level Veterinary Physiotherapist to every stable, Vet Physio Phyle is focused on not only treating injuries but improving posture to boost performance and decrease injury risk. Operating under the belief that releases of the neuromuscular system can create advanced postural improvements, Vet Physio Phyle takes a whole new approach to veterinary physiotherapy treatment.
EQUINE PHYSIOTHERAPY
The Functional Engagement and Realignment (FER) Approach is a physiotherapy and training approach that has been devised by Calli Charles to bridge the gap between musculoskeletal restrictions, asymmetries and movement patterns (both on the ground and under saddle). It is a postural re-education approach that combines a series of physiotherapeutic techniques that focus on nerve and muscle releases; in addition to in-hand & ridden based exercises to positively influence your horses “muscular architecture”. This approach promotes the functional and correct engagement of muscles, unlocking your horse and providing a basis for suppleness training.
Treatments consist of:
INDIBA Radiofrequency application (if applicable)
FER Approach neuromuscular releases
Groundwork exercises to complement and consolidate release work
Bespoke stretching and groundwork programme.
INDIBA RADIOFREQUENCY
Vet Physio Phyle is delighted to be able to offer INDIBA Radiofrequency as part of equine practice, a revolutionary device which provides advanced therapeutic benefits at a cellular level. Importantly, INDIBA Radiofrequency is supported by peer-reviewed scientific research over the period of 35+ years in both the human and veterinary field as referenced through out the information below.
INDIBA Radiofrequency activates the body’s natural healing mechanisms to regenerate and repair by cellular bio-stimulation (Hernadez-Bul et al., 2017), improvement of blood flow(Kumaran, Herbland & Watson, 2017) and pain reduction (Kumaran & Watson, 2019).
Taking the “whole-horse-approach” to an entirely new level, INDIBA Radiofrequency is able to treat a wide variety of conditions, injuries and tissue types, with some listed below:
Joint conditions – osteoarthritis (OA), osteochondrosis dissecans (OCD), sacroilliac (SI) dysfunction
Muscle recovery, tonicity and functionality
Muscle tears
Bone splints
Tendon injuries – acute or chronic; tendonitis, tears, ruptures, avulsion fractures…
Ligament injuries – acute or chronic; desmitis, tears, ruptures…
Spine conditions – kissing spine (ODSP), facet joint OA
Wounds
Pre-surgical preparation
Post-surgical recovery and rehabilitation, even in the presence of metal implants.
Promotion of the lymphatic system
Laminitis
Side bone
GROUNDWORK
Following the principles of The FER Approach, groundwork and polework sessions are fantastic for those wishing to continue to develop their horse’s posture and strength in-between treatments. Exercises will be focused on 4 key elements;
Muscle functionality
Posture
Symmetry
Suppleness
DISTANCE CONSULTATIONS
Due to overwhelming demand throughout 2023, Vet Physio Phyle now offers distance consultations whereby your horse’s posture (both standing and in motion) is assessed through a series of specifically angled photos and videos. Following this posture assessment, key exercises, stretches, mobilisations and release techniques will be discussed and demonstrated in order to improve performance and improve rehabilitation/prehabilitation approaches.
